| Loop Around Game |
What is Loop Around? This is a fun math game designed to engage students and challenge them with their mental math capabilities. Loop Around meets the California State Mathematics Standards. |
What Standards are Covered? This is a great way to incorporate some fourth grade level standards in your curriculum. The standards covered are as follows: Number Sense 1.0 Students understand the place value of whole numbers and decimals to two decimal places and how whole numbers and decimals relate to simple fractions:1.1 Read and write whole numbers in the millions. 1.3
Round whole numbers through the millions to the nearest
ten, hundred, thousand, ten thousand, or hundred thousand. 1.6
Write tenths and hundredths in decimal and fraction notations and know
the fraction and decimal equivalents for halves and fourths. 3.1 Demonstrate an understanding of, and the ability to use, standard algorithms for the addition and subtraction of multidigit numbers. 3.4 Solve
problems
involving division of multidigit numbers by one-digit numbers. |
| How
do I play Loop Around? There are forty cards in this deck. Each student is given one card (or more depending on the size of the class). Any student may begin by reading his/her problem out loud. The game progresses as each student finds the answer to the problem that was just read. The answer will be on another card, in which another equation will be read out loud. The game continues in this fashion until the answer ends back with the first student who started the game; hence Loop Around! |
