Loop Around Game
Grade: 3rd
Subject: Mathematics
Topics:
   Game 1 - Place Value
Game 2 - Addition, Subtraction, Multiplication and Division
California Content Standards: 1.2, 2.1 and 2.2

Objectives: Both games are design to give students practice in mental math of
simple problems involving addition, subtraction, multiplication, division and place value. Both games should be played after students have mastered place value concepts (Game 1) and learned basic multiplication and division of 0 - 4s (Game 2).

To Print: Cards should be printed on blank 3x5 index cards. Prints should be set accordingly to index card setting.

Directions:

1. Keep one card for yourself (instructor) and hand out one card to each student until all cards are gone. Note: All cards must be distributed in order for game to "loop around" so some students may have more than one.

2. Instructor reads to first card. Example: I am 125. Who has 1 hundred, 0 tens and 5 units?" Using their understanding of place value, students should be able to determine "1 hundred, 0 tens and 5 units" is 105. If their card says "I am 105" then they are next to go.

3. Students will continue to figure out numbers using place value clues. Game should continue until all students have had an opportunity to figure out their number and read a clue. If done correctly, last clue read should be the instructor's number.
