During the Fall and Winter quarters (August 2005 - March 2006),I had the privilege of student teaching in a third grade, self-contained classroom at Main Avenue Elementary. This school is located in a rural area of north Sacramento. We have a very diverse immigrant population of Russian, Hmong, Lao, Mexican, Fijian, Cambodian, African American, Chinese and Caucasian students, in grades K through 6. Thirty nine percent of the student body are English Language Learners (ELL). In the past 8 months, I was able to design and execute numerous lessons using Open Court Reading Program, Hampton Brown's Avenues and Scott Foresman California Math. My focus was to provide whole-class and differentiated instruction with a special consideration for ELLs and district and state standards. I returned to this site at the end of May and beginning of June. |
