| My first classroom experience was as an English teacher and volunteer coordinator at Xa Me in Hanoi, Vietnam. Xa Me's mission is to provide a safe place for young "Street Kids" and orphans to live and receive vocational training or basic education so they can become self-reliant. With the rapid increase in economic development in recent years, Vietnam has exhibited an increase in urban migration. Many of these immigrants are children who end up in organized gangs of beggars and shoe-shiners. It is here that I realize my future lied in education as a classroom teacher. |
