Artifact # 1 - This artifact is Time Management lesson I conducted with my 6th grade classes.  The objective of the lesson was to teach student concept of time and how to manage it.  Students were taught the difference between terms such as "Have-To's" and "Want-To's."  Utlimately, this lesson was desigend to help students become more aware of hwo they manage their time and ot teach them how to make time for the things they need to get done.  The students also wrote thier own time budgets.
Artifact # 2 - This artifact is a lesson I did with my ELD class on the Indian holiday Diwali.  Diwali is India's version of Chrsitmas and New years put together.  Literally it is translated as the celebration of lights.  The objective of this lesson was to teach students about a new holiday, yet get them to critically think about the different ways holidays are celebrated around the world.  It also engaged students in thougthful and meaningful conversations.  They practed their language skills.
Artifact # 3- This artifact is a writing a lesson plan I did as a follow up to my Time Management lesson.  The objective was to have students write a narrative about a typical day in their lives.  This incorporated the concepts of time management and challenegd students to take what looks like "a litst of things to do."
Artifact # 4 - This artifact is a journal entry my student did during our intervention.  I conducted a 7 day intervention with an English Language Learner where I focused on improving her reading comprehension and word meaning through the use of an interactive journal.  Together, we read the first two chapters of Beoming Naomi Leon by Pat Ryan.  As we read, we monitored our reading and wrote down any words, phrases or sentences that confused us. Once we identified what confused us, I taught my student how to use context clues to figure what they meant.  The following journal entry is from our session on Friday, Febraury 23, 2007.  I  helped my student draw a graphic organizer of a sentence she found confusing.  While I provided the framework for her, my student made the appropriate connections and meanings using context clues and her prior knowledge of the story.  I consider this my "AHA" Moment from the intervention!

Artifact # 5 - This artifact is a writing prompt my student did in class after our  intervention.   I really liked what she wrote because she took what she learned about descriptive language from our intervention and applied it to her writing.  Beoming Naomi Leon was filled with descriptive language and it was obvious she applied Pat Ryan's style of writing to her own.  It really made me proud to see my student apply what she leanred from our time together.
