About Me...

So a little about myself.  I am a 23 years old and originally from Chicago, Illinois.  I moved to the Sacramento area last summer to start my Masters work at the University of Calornia, Davis.  I completed my Bachelors of Arts degree at Depaul University in June 2006.  I majored in English Literature and Women's and Gender Studies.  I love to read and write.  Literacy has become such a makor part of my life in the last few years.  I keep a personal journal and try to write in it as much as I can.  One of the things I credit myself on, besides my great hair, is my relfectiveness.  I am constantly reflecting on my life and always looking at things from different perspectives.  I love to view things differently and look for new perespectives.  I think this kind of outlook is a strength I have as a teacher because I am always willing to leanr new and exciting a things.

My Family...

I come from a traditional, Indian family.  My parents moved to the United States in 1979 from India with my two older sisters.  I was born in Chicago, Illinois in 1983 and my younger brother joined out family in 1989.  My family and I have lived in Chicago all my life.  My father, Rachhpal, is a veterinarian and my mother, Sukhjinder, is a stay at home mom.  My oldest sister, Aman,  now lives in Modesto, California with her husband, Amardeep, and their two daughters.  They are both doctors and work with Kaiser Permanente.  I have two nieces, Nanki who is 4 years old and Naseeb who is only 4 momths old.  I love them with all my heart.  Being an aunt is so much fun because it gives me an oppotunity to be a role model for my nieces and teach them new and exciting things.  It's like being a teacher almost.

I have another older sister, Sapan, who lives in Chicago.  She is also a doctor and will be finishing her residency in June 2007.  Finally, I have a younger brother, Navi, who is a Junior in high school.  He is the baby of our family and the only boy.  He helps balance out the craziness us girls bring.

Overall, I love myfamily very much.  Throughout my educational career they have been so supportive of my sucess and progress.  I am also proud of my culture and heritage.  Any chance I get I brag about being Indian and how proud I am of my family and culture.  Being Indian is great and I love to teach my students about India and Indian culture.
