I Am Poem

Me in Selenunte

Translation

I am the beach and the sea

The courageous temples

I am the olives, because I eat them all

The red sauce, filled with love

I am my grandmother’s cookies

The fabric sewn together with patience

I am the broom the cleans up everything

The lasagna cooked with sweat

I am the house that takes good care of you

The family that is important

I am the fights, embraces and tears

The late nights out with friends

I am the hot summers

The eggplant, meatballs and ice cream

I am the confusion that at times is overwhelming

The missingness (state of missing, noun) and the sadness

I am the Italian American

A Little About Me
Home

Sono, I Am

By Antonia Corsodoro

Sono la spiaggia ed il mare

I tempi coraggiosi

Sono le olive, che le mangio tutte

E la salsa rossa piena d’amore

I am the lake by which we played

The trees rooted to the mountainside

I am the cold snow resting on the eves

And the Fall leaves dancing in the wind

Sono I biscotti della Nonna

La stoffa univa con pazienza

Sono la scopa che pulisce tutto

La lasagna fatta con sudore

I am peanut butter and jelly sandwiches

Hours spent with a book

I am the tails I tell myself at night

The songs I sing when no ones listening

Sono la casa che ti tratta bene

La famiglia che é importante

Sono le lite, gl’abbraci e le lacrime

Le serate tardi co’gli amici

I am the yarn with which I knit

The teacher and the student

I am the dreams that spur me forward

And the fear that stills my pace

Sono l’estate calde

Melanzane, polpette ed il gelato

Sono la confusione che a volte mi sopraffa

La mancanza e la tristezza

I am the Island beneath the famous boot

The passport that grants passage

I am the independent west

And the plane that bridges the two

Sono L’ Italoamericana
