| Instructions: Preparation: Print out the sheet and cut out the cards. There are two sets of twenty cards each. One set has pictures and addresses general first grade mathematics problems and the other set addresses place value and base ten blocks. Make sure to keep the two sets separate because they will not work together. How to play: To play the game pass out a card to each person. On the top of the card is an answer (For example: I have 14.) Underneath is a question. Pick one person to start. This person will read the number they have at the top as well as the question on their card (For example: I have 14. Who as this number minus 3?). At this point everyone would look at their card to see if they have the answer (For example: The answer to this problem would be 11. So the person with the card that has "I have 11." at the top would be the next person to go. Once the person with this card reads the top, "I have 11." they will then read their question on their card.). The game has been created in a way that when you get to the last person it will loop back around to the first person to go. Benefits of game: This game is a good way for an entire class to work on their mathematical thinking skills. All math is mental math. It becomes a fun way to practice these skills by involving everyone and not just the people who want to be called on. |
