August 2006-Current
Student Teacher/Substitute: Silveyville Primary School, Title I, DUSD, Dixon Ca.
Student taught in a fourth grade SEI classroom. Planned and implemented original lessons using standards-based Houghton Mifflin core curriculum in language arts, mathematics, and social studies. Collaborated with fellow teachers in writer's workshops, and planned and implemented ELD lessons. Modified lesson for ELL and special needs students. Led whole class and small group discussions. Administered benchmark assessments. Attended staff meetings and common planning time meetings to collaborate with fellow teachers. Participated in parent-teacher conferences, SST, and IEP meetings.

June 2005-July 2006
Site Director: City of Sacramento START program
Director of the START after school intervention program at Elder Creek Elementary, which caters to 250+ students ranging from, grades K-6. Supervised eleven program leaders in implementing curriculum, which corresponds with regular classroom teachers, and California state standards. Responsible for maintaining student attendance, budget reports, and staff and student safety.

Supervised twenty or more students in the after school environment implementing curriculums which include academic tutoring, enrichment activities, and a recreational component. Responsible for classroom management as well as behavior management of students, and lesson planning.

DISTINCTIONS/SPECIAL SKILLS

  • Fluent in Vietnamese (reading, writing, and speaking).
  • Recipient of Sacramento START Site Director of the Year Award 2006
  • Served as one of three Co-chairs (president) for the School of Education Graduate Student Association (EdGSA) from August 2006 to June 2007.
  • Proficient in using computer applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Apple Works, and Photoshop), web page development, scanning, digitizing video clips and digital imaging.
  • Volunteer at Elder Creek Elementary school teaching tennis basics to students grades 3rd - 6th as a part of JUSTA (Junior United States Tennis Association). Placed first in Northern California Region Tournament.
