Hey everyone,

My name is Concha Hernandez and I am currently enrolled in the UC Davis multiple subjects credential program.  I will be receiving my multiple subjects credential, BCLAD, this June, 2007.  Although I did not know it at the time my interest for teaching began during my early childhood years.   As a young child I loved to teach my younger brother things I had learned in school.   He patiently sat through what were probably terrible science, math, and art lessons.  Let's not forget the grandest lesson of all, the dangers of drugs.  As a teenager I had several teachers  recommend I become a teacher in the future.  I quickly dismissed their ideas and pictured myself as a grand chemist.  A full year of math and science during my first year of undergraduate work at UC Davis taught me otherwise.  I could not picture myself being stuck in a lab without human contact.  I
let my passion for learning about the world and different cultures guide me to take more liberal arts courses.  A bachelors degree in communications and chicano studies later I realized that my teachers had been right, I was destined to become a teacher.   For that I thank them.  This year has been an amazing year.

Since August I have been student teaching in a kindergarten classroom at an English and Spanish dual immersion school in Woodland.  I love the kids in my classroom as they ground me each and every day.  They teach me about themselves, their culture, to be quick on my feet, to laugh at myself
when my lessons go wrong, and that children are honest.

Aside from having 20 great children in my life I have a wonderfully big family.  I have four elder sisters, a younger brother and sister who calm me down when I am stressed out.  I also have two wonderfull parents who came to this country to give my siblings and I a better life.  Their courage, faith, and wisdom inspire me.  As you can see my family and I are a very close.  Believe it or not, we still take family vacations.

During my vacations I love to take yearly trips to Mexico.  Both my parents were born in Mexico.   Altough most of of my trips require a stop at my parent's home town to visit relatives I make it a point to visit as many states and towns as possible.  Most people do not realize how diverse Mexico is.  I value being able to visit small colonial towns, the biggest city in the world, the jungle, the desert, and sunny beaches all in one trip.   I have included some pictures of my past vacations.  Hope you enjoy them as much as I do.  I hope to some day also include a yearly trip to an unknown country.   I feel it is important to value other cultures as much as your own.  Aside from traveling to Mexico I enjoy gardening.  Figures, there is a long line of avid garndeners in my family stretching as far back as my great grandmother.  I enjoy hearing my mothers stories about my great grandmother's and grandmother's gardens.   Well, I hope by reading this page you have learned a little bit about me.

The original is currently on display at the anthropological museum in Mexico City.

Pyramid of the Sun, Teotihuacan, Mexico.  When the Aztecs saw the abandoned pyramids they believed that their Gods had inhabited the area, hence the name Teotihuacan, city of the gods.

Taxco, Mexico.  If you are ever in the mood to shop for silver jewelry
I recommend this place.  A beautiful hillside town with fantastic deals!

In Spanish a prickly pear is called a tuna.
