I am from tall buildings of taiwan and living on the seventh floor. I am from congee and soymilk breakfast, and bakery from the first floor.
I am from Aunty's piggy back rides, and
Grandpa's motorcycle rides! I am from Grandpa, Grandma, Uncles, and Aunties' care. "GhongMeh"
they still call me over there. I am from crying to sleep because I miss Grandma in Taiwan, cradling Grandma's picture in my arms with the light on.
Taiwan was what I knew. But
back to the U.S. I flew.
I am from being the lost fish, the girl with broken English. With clothes from Taiwan, in school, I was the shy one.
I am the middle child and only girl, where my parents sheltered me like a little pearl. I am from "do as Mom says," "do you best in school, I expect no less." I am from taking the middle paths, to avoid any wraths.
I am from respect for the older, and
where family will always be my shoulder. I represent both sides of a coin. Both sides I do join. I am from American school on weekdays, and
Chinese school on Saturdays. I am from a shoes off home and Moon Festivals, a
neighborhood that celebrates Halloween and attends Autumn carnivals. I shop as if at Taiwan's frugal street markets, I
look to Hollywood for the latest trendsets. Tofu is my favorite food, and
"In N' Out" burgers are yummy dude! I am traditional Taiwanese granddaughter to my Grandparents, living in a multicultural world. What I am, often depends... I am Taiwanese-American, and sometimes just Chinese.
