I am from the country...

I am from the country,
The flat lands and distant mountains.
I am from clean air and juniper trees,
Oregon is my home.

I am from nature,
Camping, gardening, and sheep,
Lilac sunsets, fresh, crisp snow
Deer, cows and coyotes.

I am from acres of fences,
Irrigation dams and ponds.
I am from apple tree houses
And skiing in the back yard.
 
I am from “eat two more bites,”
And family dinners with long conversations.
Thanksgivings full of football,
BBQ turkey and homemade strawberry jam.

I am from shelves heavy with books,
Literature as life.
I am from a family of teachers,
Proper English, and fun art projects.

I am from Deborah,
I am from Cecil,
I am a Jones,
I am me.
