BIOGRAPHY

About Me
I have grown up in Suisun, CA and am looking forward to working in the Solano County area.  I have two older brothers and 45 first cousins.  I attended San Diego State University and received my B.A. in Economics.  I am attending UC Davis and will be receving my Multiple Subject teaching credential in June 2007 and M.A in Education March 2008.

I began working in a kindergarten classroom my senior year of highschool.  I have gained ample experience student teaching and substitute teaching in Kindergarten, 2nd grade and am currently working in a 6th grade classroom.  I now know that I will be happy and ready to teach in any classroom K-6.

My passion for teaching goes beyond the academic world and into the performing arts.  I began dancing when I was 11 years old and eventually began teaching at the same local studio where I grew up.  I now have been teaching dance and choreographing for national and regional competitions for the past 9 years.  Dancers in my company learn the concepts of dedication, committment, professionalism, and good work ethics that they are able to apply in all aspects of their lives.  My Performing Arts experience will be beneficial to my future students and school.
Where I am from...
I am from…

My Grandpa’s Babydoll to Grandma’s Mija,
Nanny to The Schmelings and Auntie to Cierra,
Stupid to my brothers and “Only Girl” to my Father and
Daughter/Friend… to my Mother

I am from…

 Sarcasm, Our family’s Golden Rule
Learn it quick or your swallowed whole.
Brothers are viscous and quick with the jokes,
but I learned to dish it with the rest of the folks.

 I am from…

She-Ra, He-Man and the powers of Greyskull,
Romper Room and CareBears I thought were way cool
.
And last but not least I could watch it for hours,

and shout at the top of my lungs PUNKY POWER!

I learned from these shows vital information,
but now it is “Grey’s Anatomy” that I offer my dedication

 I am from…

PDA’s  from Ken and Barbies,
Allowances to Salaries
“Thanks Mom” to “It’s on Me”
(or at least someday it will be).

I am from…

Student to Role Model to Instructor/Manager
Photographer Choreographer to all of the above and then some there after.

I am from…

T-Ball, Gymnastics, Baton, and Soccer,
I tried it all with enthusiasm and vigor
Then I was 11 and extremely insecure,
it was Dance that taught me and showed me the cure
.
Jazz, Tap, Ballet, and Lyrical.
Modern, Hip Hop, Character

Tap Shoes and Sparkly Sequence,
Velvet, Chiffon, and flow-y dresses

 I come from…

Pirouettes, Penches, Ron de Jambe, Shuffles,
Cramprolls, Shiggybops, Cheinees, and Stompfuls.
Graceful, Elongated, “Watch your lines!”
Stylized, Grounded, “Keep in Time!”

I idolized …

Gregory Hines, Mr. Bojangles, and Savion Glover,
who all are amazing and inspirational hoofers.
How they tap so fast there’s just no telling,
but my dream is to one day teach and
choreograph like Lisa Clark-Schmeling!

 I am from…

Suisun to San Diego

San Diego back to Fairfield

SES to SDSU to UCD

And then I’m THROUGH!

 I come from

A million different relationships and chances,
friends, family, passions and glances.
But all of these are who and what make me,

Philosophy Statement

In my experiences I have come to believe that education is essential for the success of an individual.  This does not mean that every successful person graduates from college, for one may receive their education elsewhere.  Education comes in various forms and methods and from all sorts of venues and sources.  It is easy to derive examples of those who go on to successful careers upon receiving their M.B.A from an accredited university.  However, it may not be as simple to identify those who became successful immediately after high school or sooner. One who goes directly into a family business or moves up the promotional ladder of their after-school job are prime examples of people who received an education imperative to their success outside of the collegiate world.

I believe that there are several factors that can contribute to the educational growth of an individual.  Some factors work to advance the educational process and may even supplement for other factors that may negatively effect the individual’s educational growth.  Education is not a result of just one factor, the results of an individual’s education derive from the collaboration of administration, teachers, parents, and students.  The value placed on education is directly correlated to the values and examples set forth by those involved with the student’s educational process.

Parents are the most important they provide experiences, models, and beliefs.  I do not intend to imply that a student who does not have a strong parental relationship will not succeed.  I just simply believe that the parents support and involvement has the greatest effect positive or negative on the student’s educational history.  This is an example of when one factor can supplement for the negative effect another factor is having on the individual’s educational accomplishments.  A teacher, sibling, or counselor can provide the extra support needed when a student learns bad habits from unsupportive parents.  Each educational process is unique and dependent upon multiple factors.

Education contains teachers and students whom play multiple roles.  Every individual plays the role of teacher and student throughout their life. Everyone learns new things everyday and with each new experience.  They are learning from co-workers, instructors, friends, and children.  Everyone has their own set of experiences and knowledge that have been arranged in a way unique to everyone else in the world.  No two people are identical and therefore we all play the roles or learners and educators throughout our entire lives.

Education should be dependent upon the community and environment.  I find it important for a Californian to learn more about earthquakes than one from the Midwest.  I also find it essential for one raised in East Compton to learn about the ins and outs of their own neighborhood, while another raised in Napa Valley should be doing the same about their own neighborhood.  Education is a means of survival and a necessity.  Students learn about topics that are directly related to them as well as learn about other places and cultures. Different cultures should be celebrated within the classrooms.  The teaching of other climates, socioeconomics, demographics, culture, and language, which is not directly related to an individual, will help promote appreciation and acceptance of others.
