Biography
I, Leah Quenelle, was born on October 13, 1977 in San José, California. I have spent most of my life in the greater Bay Area.
I have one younger sister who, along with my parents, also lives in the South Bay region. I have aslo lived briefly in
Costa Rica, Central America and New Orleans, Louisianna.

I attended U.C. Berkeley for my undergraduate degree in Peace and Conflict Studies. I began working in environmental
education at this time and have worked with children in various settings ever since.

I currently enjoy spending time with my family, including my boyfriend, Jimmy, while hiking, canoeing, and backpacking. I also
love to swim, garden and read. I appreciate quiet moments when I can observe the people, plants and animals around me.

My Teaching Philosphy
I believe that one of my most important roles as a teacher is to help students to find their own life long passion for learning.
Each individual has a unique set of talents and skills and these are a valuable assett to the classroom community. However,
this classroom community is just one realm of a child's life. By finding ways to make connections between school  life and a
child's family and community, the student's unique cultural, linguistic and social network is honored and our schools are
enrcihed as well. Including links to the world outside of school also has the potential to make learning more meaningful and
hands-on. I believe that experiential learning is an important component in the development of children's sense of self, sense
of responsibility and ability to think critically. Reading and mathematic skills are valuable and neccessary to successfully
navigate and enjoy our changing world. Critical thinking skills and a sense of one's place in the world, and the local community,
are equally essential for ensuring that children are empowered to have an active and informed role in the world around them.
