I am from "I want a sister" and getting two brothers,
From Mom and Dad fights and weekend at Dad's
I am from Temple City, South Bend, back to Temple City, Hacienda
Heights and Diamond Bar,
From making new friends and keeping one old.
I am from garage sales on Saturdays, coupons and clearances,
From "wait until it goes on sale."
I am from hand-me-downs and presents,
To Bebe, Guess, and Express.
I am from "Don't come back until you've memorized the 6,7, and 8
tables,"
From "Practice your piano one hour everyday or you can't sleep."
I am from borrowing toys from libraries,
From Boxcar Children and Children's Encyclopedia.
I am from Chinese jump ropes, hopscotch, and collecting rocks, pogs,
and cards,
From sleepovers and frozen socks, writing 100 page letters.
I am from broken hearts, sneaking out, and planning extravagant outings,
To a ring around my finger, and still more sneaking out.
I am from friendships, from family resentment,
From an inspiring teacher, from a five-year love.
I am from my experiences, from regrets,
But most importantly, I'm from Taiwan.
