LOOP AROUND ACTIVITY
DIRECTIONS:

Print out the Loop Around game on cardstock, cut out and laminate to allow for multiple uses.

Pass out one card to each student (40 have been provided for larger classes). Starting with one card, for example, "I HAVE 14," have the students follow along completing each Math question. The students ask the questions at the bottom of the cards to keep the game going. If no one answers one of the questions, have the students work out the question as a group.

The goal of the Loop Around is to foster Mental Math, speed and accuracy. It is also a fun way for students to interact with one another and problem solve together. This could be a warm up exercise when transitioning into the day's Math lesson.
Standards being covered:
(Meeting Fifth Grade Standards)
Number Sense:
1.0 Students compute with very large and very small numbers, positive integers, decimals, and fractions and understand the relationship between decimals, fractions, and percents. They understand the relative magnitudes of numbers.
2.0 Students perform calculations and solve problems involving addition, subtraction, and simple multiplication and division of fractions and decimals.
Mathematical Reasoning:
1.0 Students make decisions about how to approach problems.
2.0 Students use strategies, skills, and concepts in finding solutions.

More Loop Arounds can be made to meet all of the fifth grade standards (e.g. Algebra and Functions, Measurement and Geometry, Statistics, Data Analysis, and Probability).
