Hi! My name is Catie
Day and I am
currently working towards getting my Multiple Subjects
credential. I have wanted to be a teacher since I was
little. I love helping others as well as being around
people. As I got older, I realized how much I love to work with
children. The energy that they have and their curiousity in so
many things is amazing! I also love the challenge of thinking of
new ways to teach the curriculum as well as help a student understand
the curriculum that they previously had not understood.
I grew up in Davis, California. I attended public school, beginning with Pioneer Elementary, then Holmes Junior High, and finishing at Davis Senior High School. After high school, I went to University of Oregon in Eugene. There I majored in Elementary Education and minored in Special Education and Psychology. In Eugene, I worked at Edison Elementary School in two kindergarten classrooms, as well as third grade and a resource room. My confidence grew during my time at Edison; I was allowed to teach lessons that I had created as well as implement lessons that others had created as well. I have also taught swimming for a number of years, working with preschool age children through adult. During my years of coaching swimming, I was fortunate to have the opportunity to work with Special Olympics, teaching all ages how to swim. This was an amazing experience for me because I was able to help people who never had the experience to learn how to swim because many had assumed they were unable to swim. Besides coaching swimming, I also worked at two different summer camps. The first I was an inclusive aide, which meant I worked with two girls who needed a little extra assistance to be able to fully participate in camp. Through this experience, I learned how hard it is for children who have a disability, especially those who are confined to a wheel chair as well as those who have a disability that affects their personality. My family is a big part of my life, which is why I decided to return to Davis after I graduated college. I enjoy sports, especially watching Oregon Duck football and basketball. I like to be outdoors and to exercise. In my free time, I often read, my favorites being mysteries and children's books. I also watch movies and visit with friends. I would love to travel the world and love meeting new people! |
