Student
Teaching
My
Student Teaching placements have been invaluabe in giving me experience
in the primairy grades as I have had opportunities working with sixth
graders in the past.
I feel capable of working with any age group in the elementary years after these experiences. |

| ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ At
Silveyville I co-student
taught in a third grade classroom. The focal points were leading the
language arts and math boards. In addition I also assisted with the
Standards Plus curriculum in language arts, different level reading
groups, and whole group math instruction on place value identification
and subtraction with regrouping and borrowing. I enjoyed the
spirit and eagerness to learn as well as the significant developmental
growth of this age group.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ At Beamer Park Elementary I had the unique opportunity of working at a Dual Immersion setting. Prior to this experience I had been and continue to be a strong advocate for the acquisition of more than one language through two-way immersion programs; the benefits that come to both native speakers and foreign language learners is invaluable and as research has demonstrated repeatedly, will lead to positive educational outcomes and cognitive gains. Working at Beamer Park gave me insight at the challenges, great effort, and support that is necessary to make a dual immersion program possible. This includes the joint cooperation and commitment from the school, teachers and administration, students and their families, district and surrounding community. In the kindergarten class my greatest lesson was the importance of classroom and behavior management. As a teacher it is essential that we clearly deliver, set and maintain high expectations. This includes order in the classroom, to create an environment of learning; if one child is not paying attention or distracting other students from learning that is not fair to the other children or the child causing distraction. The students are in the classroom to learn and as a teacher it is crucial that we create an environment and expectations which uphold this focus of opportunity of learning for EVERY child. My resident teacher demonstrated a great model of persistence and commitment to the education of all of her students. My role as student teacher encompassed leading the morning activities, the daily calender routine, facilitation of small groups for math and writing, whole group reading, and peace making programs. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ |
