Summary:  This fun filled book follows an energetic mouse through a series of elaborate, self-initiated activites.  This high-energy adventure begins with a cookie and ends up weaving its way through the impulsive mind of a small mouse.
 
Recommendation for Parents:
This is a perfect book for an emergent reader because the picture are so detailed that they lend themselves to the reader.  The images are extraordinary and will help children to identify new words.  This is an excellent book that incorporates sight words (frequently occuring words) as well as those that may be unfamiliar.

Recommendation for Teachers: 
I believe that this story book is the perfect tool to elicit creative writing.  The story is fun and light-hearted but also incorporates the ability to introduce cause and effect and prediction techniques.

Personal Note:  I like and recommend this book because of its ability to create critical thinking, dialogue between the reader and the child and its ability to initiate personal connections. 
Summary:  This story explores a young girls roots through the identification of her family heritage.  She discusses the tremendous diversity among her family and her pride in her multicultural ancestory.  She explores and identifies herself based on her ancestors and how she holds a piece of all of them inside of her.  This author then compares this little girl to present day America.

Recommendation for Parents: 
This is a wonderful story that exemplifies the beauty of diversity.  It uses repetition and rhyme which enhance the abilities of emergent reader.  This book is also filled with new and unfamiliar words for early readers which helps to strengthen their reading vocabulary.

Recommendation for Teachers: 
This story reaffirms the positive aspects of cultural diversity while establishing historical connections.  It opens up room for discussion about various aspects of history as well as geographic locations.  This would be a perfect book to link language arts and history or geography.

Personal Note:  I like and recommend this book because of the positive spin it places on various cultures as well as the positive self-image it portrays.  Also, the illustrations are captivating and create support for the text.  This enhances a childs understanding and helps create relevant connections between themselves and the text.
