One kid is nerdy and the other is street smart. What begins as an awkward encounter ends up as an exciting friendship. This book involves a Caucasian and an African American boy whose friendship develops with few words and a lot of good body language. Recommendation for Parents: I recommend this book to parents, because it is a great picture book and teaches children about body language in communication. It also deals with racial diversity, ways to deal with social situations, and the delicate creation of a friendship. Recommendation for Other Teachers: This books permits the reader to emphasize reflection in speech and reading. There is also a lot of use with punctuation and short beginner readers. In addition it teaches children about creating friendships with children of another race or culture. Personal Note: I love this story. It is a perfect multicultural book for children who are learning about different races and cultures. This book teaches children about punctuation, friendship, social situation, and is a perfect picture book. It is also a great way to have the students in the classroom act out the parts. |

His father offers to make a pie for his son's enemy as long as the boys spends the day with his enemy. By facing his fears, the little boy put aside his previous judgments and made a new friend. Recommendation for Parents I recommend this book, because it teaches children about friendship, morals, and how to deal with conflicts. Children frequently face conflict with friends that can often be easily worked out. I give this book a thumbs up! Recommendation for Other Teachers Enemy Pie helps students deal with friendship conflicts inside and outside of the classroom. It also helps support teachers on how to deal with children's conflicts in a positive manner. Personal Note: I really think that this book is really great and teaches children a good lesson. The illustrations are very colorful, well laid out, and help children follow the story. I love the moral of the story. I love how the characters have big faces that show emotion. |
