My Philosophy Statement

Why I Choose To Teach

Every child  can learn.  It is merely my job to prove to the child that he or she can learn.

Every child  has potential.  It is merely my job to show the child his or her potential.

And every child  can succeed.  It is merely my job to help the child reach this success.

As a teacher, I feel that I have a duty --  a duty to the children that I teach.  Such responsibility entails that I find ways to intertwine the necessary elements of any child's education, creating a collaborative and considerate community that will allow my students to grow -- understanding that they can learn, realizing that they do have potential, and reaching their ultimate success.

The Teacher

The Students
Teachers not only teach, but they learn.  They learn with their student, and from their students.  Key to this is flexibility, patience, and support.  As the teacher, I must be ready to adapt to student needs and classroom situations.  I must value my students and the strengths and weaknesses that accompany them.  I must be wary of the different learning styles and support each one.  As the teacher, I am here for my students.

I feel all children have the right to learn in an educational setting.  In my classroom, every voice counts, every thought matters, and all questions are significant.  True, every child is capable of learning.  But it should also be noted that each child is different from the next.  Students must create personal learning goals in order to reach their full potential.  With that said, I am always available to assist any student in doing so.

The Family

The Community
The family plays an intricate role in the lives of the students and the building of the community.  Being such a crucial component to both the personal development and academic success of children, family involvement is not only welcomed, it is encouraged.  The home life and school life of children should be one in the same, for learning occurs in both realms, and guardians, too, become teachers.

With every member respectfully and actively participating, a community can be created.  The community we shall create will ultimately be a positive one, where every individual feels welcomed and successful.  Our community will be celebrated and valued as we often turn to each other and learn from one another.  Collaboration and discussion is  a must and each and every child should feel safe, confident, and ready to learn.

My drive to teach stems from my overall passion for education.  I have and always will be one to value the work of teachers and learners.  As both, I know that the roles are challenging, demanding, and even more so, rewarding.  I look forward to creating a learning community with my colleagues, my students, and their families.  Together, we can explore our roles and share countless experiences.
