Where I’m From
I am from giant sugarpines and towering cedars,
From dusty red dirt roads and sweet mountain air.
I am from lumbering bears and prowling mountain lions.
Nature flourishes where I’m from.
I am from hot summer days
Spent at Smart’s Crossing,
From well-used fishing poles and secret dirt bike trails.
I am from warm campfires on cool autumn nights,
From all-too-often skinned knees and the best climbing trees.
I am from snow-wearied boughs and world record icicles,
From lazy snow days and The Legend of Zelda.
I am from star-crossed nights at Iron Point,
From youthful first kisses to finding true love.
I am from chickens to horses, our own family farm,
From record-breaking 400m sprints and the local 4H club.
I am from Mommy’s famous apple pie, and Daddy’s perfect cast,
From “you get more with honey than you do with vinegar” and “family comes first”.
I am from many things, but above all else,
Every one of them resembles home, family, and love.
