Personal Teaching Philosophy:

My primary goal as a teacher is to help my students develop a lasting passion for learning that endures beyond my classroom. Each day I hope to motivate my students by demonstrating my own enthusiasm for learning through my teaching, and I encourage students to use my classroom to share and pursue what interests them.

I also believe that an interactive classroom is critical for successful learning. Students learn best when they can directly use the skills they are being taught. Asking questions, encouraging discussion, and using problem solving activities can promote student participation. I believe students will feel empowered and engaged with the learning process when they are allowed to directly interact with the relevant subject matter.

In my classroom, I try to constantly remember that individual student learning styles vary; therefore, using an array of teaching techniques that can accommodate diverse student abilities is essential. I enjoy giving students choices in regards to assessments and activities. When students have choices, they can demonstrate their knowledge more effectively by utilizing their individual strengths.

Most importantly, I value my students. Students are important individuals who enter the classroom with significant personal histories and life experiences. Through class discussions and assignments, I invite students to share their diverse backgrounds and life experiences. When students make connections between what they are learning and their personal experiences, learning becomes less abstract and more tangible.
